ORBi is expanding
The success of ORBi, ULiège’s institutional repository, is inspiring others. The University of Luxembourg and the University of Mons have joined the project and choosed the solution developed by ULiège for the deposit and open access dissemination of their scientific publications.

aunched in 2008, this Open Access repository reflects the University of Liège’s commitment in making its scientific output available to all and demonstrates its support for the Open Access movement.
As part of its creation, a compulsory deposit mandate was implemented within the University of Liège: only publications and communications in ORBi are taken into account for internal evaluations.
Thanks to this active policy and the strong involvement of our researchers, ORBi’s success was fast, making ULiège a recognized actor in Open Access.
Building on this success, ORBi was then adopted by our partners at the University of Luxembourg and the University of Mons.
ORBILU – UNIVERSITY OF LUXEMBOURG
ORBilu is the result of the partnership between ULiège and UniLu that began in 2012.
Resulting from several months of work by the respective Library Directors, this transnational event presented a challenge but also an opportunity for the development of Open Access.
The Luxembourg counterpart of ORBi, ORBilu, was launched in 2013, accompanied by a mandate based on the ULiège model, allowing them to gain new visibility for their research and to promote a policy focused on open access.
Since 2014, ORBilu has been the official reference source for generating publication lists at the University of Luxembourg (activity reports, evaluation files, curricula vitae).
ORBI UMONS
On May 4, 2021, the University of Mons also embarked on the ORBi journey.
The University of Mons had its own institutional repository since 2011 and a mandatory deposit policy since 2012. However, faced with certain limitations of this tool, UMONS expressed the desire to see it evolve in order to better meet the needs of the Institution and its researchers by offering a complete interface for referencing and showcasing the University’s publications and research It was in this context, and given its expertise in Open Access and the development of the ORBi institutional repository, that the University of Liège was approached.
