On June 8, Geeks Anonymes will host Philippe Laurent for a lecture titled "Will open source survive the AI Act and other legislation?"

On June 22, 2026, Geeks Anonymes will host Philippe Laurent, a Brussels-based attorney and specialist in IT law (MVVP law firm), for a lecture on new regulations in the fields of AI, software security, and user liability.

The world of software development is undergoing a major upheaval, including on the legal front: against a backdrop of ever-increasing dependence on IT and growing awareness of digital sovereignty issues, the focus is now on strengthening cybersecurity and protecting users’ rights and interests.

The AI Act, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and the Defective Products Directive (PLD)... these are three new European regulations that impose obligations on providers and have (or will have) a decisive impact on the software industry, while attempting to accommodate open source.

What are the scope of application of these laws and the main obligations they impose? How do they define free/open-source software? How and to what extent do they establish less restrictive regimes for certain developers of such software? We invite you to explore these questions during an interactive presentation with a specialized legal expert.
