Open Science ?

Open Science is a movement aimed at making scientific research more transparent, collaborative, and accessible to everyone.

The main goal of Open Science is to encourage the free and open dissemination of scientific knowledge, as well as to promote collaboration among researchers and the sharing of data, software, and other research resources. 

Since its inception in the early 2000s, the Open Science movement has undergone major developments. Today, it is part of a broader societal evolution marked by the digital transition, the need for collective responses to major societal challenges, and the desire for transparency in sharing scientific research results. 

The scope of Open Science is extremely broad when considering all the actions that enable the sharing of resources and results. Open Science encompasses all aspects of research and is based in particular on: 

• Open Access, which concerns scientific literature; 
• Open Data, raw research data; 
• Open Source, the source code for software development; 
• Open Educational Resources, educational materials and course materials;  
• Citizen and participatory science; 
• Open peer review. 

Open Science means making the entire research process—from its development to the dissemination of knowledge—available to everyone, with an emphasis on accessibility, sharing, and the use of information.  

Participating inOpen Science means supporting transparent, collaborative, and citizen-driven science, where everyone’s work contributes to improving research and fostering knowledge shared by all without any barriers. 

Open Science fosters openness to the world and civil society and promotes interdisciplinary approaches, going against the grain of dominant economic models that compartmentalize research and hinder creativity and innovation.
